Episode 035: Building Authentic Relationships in Real Estate with Christina Rordam
I am so excited to share this conversation with you! Christina Rordam, a top-producing real estate agent in Orlando and Central Florida, joined me to talk about everything from managing chronic illnesses as an entrepreneur to building authentic relationships that fuel long-term business success.
Christina has been in real estate for 20 years and maximizes home sellers' profits through technology, video marketing, and social media. She's also a published author, columnist, social media coach, and sometimes comedian who hosts the podcast "Selling Funny." What I love most about Christina is how she integrates humor and creativity into her business while staying authentic to who she is.
The Real Talk About Perimenopause and Business
Listen, we need to talk about something that's not discussed enough - how perimenopause affects female entrepreneurs. Christina and I dove deep into this because it's real, and it's affecting your business whether you realize it or not.
Christina shared how her migraines kicked into overdrive during perimenopause, and here's what she learned: "I didn't really realize till I got with an actual migraine specialist and he was asking me all these questions and I'm like, yeah, I have that, but that's something else. He's like, no, these are all migraine symptoms."
I've been saying this for years - if you're a female founder dealing with brain fog, energy crashes, or feeling like your body is working against you, you're not alone. Christina also manages Hashimoto's thyroiditis and learned that getting proper testing (not just basic thyroid panels) was game-changing.
The breakthrough moment? Understanding that magnesium supplementation helped her sleep issues, and working with a holistic doctor who actually ran complete tests. Sometimes you have to advocate for yourself and find practitioners who will dig deeper.
Why Relationships Trump Everything in Business
Here's what I love about Christina's approach to real estate - she operates on referrals, not Zillow leads. She told me, "I become friends with a lot of my customers and that is what happens. So I'm more focused on the customer service aspect of it and the relationship building aspect."
This is exactly what I teach in my newsletter - if you're creating your brand to help a specific person on their journey, they're going to want to keep you around. Christina's clients hire her again and refer her to others because she treats them how they want to be treated, not how she would want to be treated.
The magic happens when you magnetize your energy. You strongly attract the right people and intensely repel the wrong ones. Christina gets this - she shows up authentically on social media, shares her personality, and connects with people who resonate with her vibe.
The Productivity Trap We All Fall Into
Christina shared something that hit me hard - how she burned herself out volunteering on boards and committees while running her business. "I was on the board of directors for a really large real estate organization and doing all these good things, but I got halfway through the year and I was just physically exhausted."
Here's the real talk: Those women who are heavily involved in charity work and socializing? That's their job. They're not running businesses. They don't have day-to-day operations to manage. If you're an entrepreneur still active in your business operations, you don't have time and energy to donate like that - it's a recipe for burnout.
Christina learned to put systems in place and pull back. Now she's reentering that space, but on her terms. This is what I mean when I say productivity isn't getting a lot of work done in a big period of time - it's getting a lot of work done with little energy expenditure.
Working With Your Natural Energy Cycles
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was when Christina talked about documenting her day for content creation. She said, "I document my day so if I'm out and I have makeup on and I'm dressed and I'm showing a house, I'm gonna be filming it because then I can use that as content without getting on camera when I don't have the energy to show up."
This is exactly what I teach - you don't have to get up at 4 AM every day and have the same energy level. You're going to have different energy cycles, especially if you're dealing with chronic illnesses or hormonal fluctuations. Work with that, not against it.
Christina gets it: "You can't be all things to all people all the time." She learned to unchain herself from the responsibility of managing everyone else's emotions. This is huge for female entrepreneurs who've been conditioned to take care of everyone except themselves.
The Social Media Reality Check
Here's something nobody talks about enough - if you're putting yourself out there authentically on social media, you're going to get haters. Christina deals with this constantly as a realtor on TikTok. "There's a guy who will just post on any piece of content that you have - go to Home Depot and get a for sale sign and save yourself ten thousand dollars."
The solution? Block and delete. Don't internalize it. Those aren't your people - they're miserable people who wake up every day asking what stranger on the internet they're going to scream at.
I love Christina's approach to content creation - she adds real value, puts herself in her audience's shoes, and thinks about what they need to hear. Her viral content isn't just pretty pictures; it's pictures with valuable text overlays that solve problems for her ideal clients.
The AI Revolution for Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs
Christina and I talked about how AI tools like ChatGPT are game-changers for entrepreneurs, especially those of us with neurodivergent brains. I told her how I use AI as my "Gen Z assistant that has a ton of education but no original thoughts" - I give it my original ideas and ask it to polish them up.
This isn't cheating - it's smart business. Christina used to spend four to five hours creating one social media post when she was learning. Now with templates, brand kits, and AI assistance, she can create content efficiently while still maintaining her authentic voice.
The key is understanding that AI enhances what you do; it doesn't replace you. You're still the important ingredient in the recipe.
Building Your Ecosystem for Success
Christina's journey taught her that trying to do everything herself wasn't actually impressive - it was exhausting. She learned that leveraging help and asking for support is actually the smarter way to operate.
This resonates so deeply with what I teach my clients. You have to identify your zone of genius and build systems around everything else. For Christina, relationships are her superpower - that's the lifeblood of her business. Everything else can be systematized, delegated, or automated.
The Bottom Line
Christina's story perfectly illustrates what I teach in my programs - successful female entrepreneurs who deal with chronic illnesses and neurodivergence need to work with their bodies and brains, not against them. They need to prioritize relationships over transactions, authenticity over perfection, and systems over hustle.
If you're a female founder who's sick of being strong and ready to be powerful instead, take notes from Christina's approach. Build genuine relationships, show up authentically, create content that adds value, and design your business around your natural energy patterns.
Remember - you can have it all, as long as you're willing to hire out, systematize, and work smarter, not harder.
